Finding the perfect town for a lake District holiday

If you are thinking about going to the Lakes for a holiday you obviously have to have a bit of a think about what sort of place you want to stay, and also what sort of place you want to stay in. There are of course plenty of camp sites in the Lakes, and also plenty of Hotels and B & B’s. These can all be nice, but a lot of people find that if they are spending a week or more in the Lakes it is nice to have somewhere that you can call your own. After a day out trekking or hiking, you will want a warm and cosy place to stay where you can either slob out, or cuddle up with your partner, away from the weather outside.

Once you have decided what accommodation you want, you need to think about location. For those who have not visited the Lakes before, it is nice to visit the Northern Lakes, because perhaps more spectacular areas are easy to visit from here. A superb town to stay in is Keswick. It is often regarded as being the hub of the Northern Lakes, and this is because it is well central, and there aren’t too many places in the Northern Lakes which are out of reach. The town itself is a delightful market town and is perfect for a week or two. There are plenty of shops to keep you fed and watered, and the local attractions such as Derwentwater and the Castlerigg Stone Circle are well worth a look.

To find Keswick cottages you only have to look online. There are plenty available in the town, but make sure you book early to make sure that you get the pick of the best accommodation.

If Keswick is not for you, you will also find that there are some delightful ambleside cottages and bowness cottages to rent too.
